What is included in the cost of my rental?
Rental rates are dependent on the number of sheets needed. Our standard rental cost for non-member events is $370 per ice sheet. This fee includes two hours of professionally maintained curling ice, one instructor, the cost of ice maintenance, curling equipment rental (grippers, brooms, delivery sticks, step-on sliders), and access to our main Curling Lounge before and after your ice time.
What paperwork or forms do I need to complete to rent the ice?
It is standard procedure that anyone looking to book with Dixie sign a “Rental Agreement.” This agreement will go over the details of your booking (i.e., dates, times, fees) to ensure that everything is as you would like it. The agreement also includes a confirmation that you or a member of your group has reviewed a concussion awareness resource; you must also sign that confirmation.
Once our staff confirms your rental you will be sent a link to Smart Waiver, which is our online waiver portal. Every member of your group must complete the appropriate waiver(s) through that portal before they are able to curl.
Individuals aged 7-17: Dixie Under the Age of Majority Assumption of Risk
Individuals age 18+: Over the Age of Consent Dixie Curling Centre Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims and Indemnity Agreement
Individuals aged 7-26: DIXIE ROWANS LAW ACKNOWLEDGMENT (in addition to a risk acknowledgment waiver)
When do I need to pay my rental fees?
A deposit is due upon booking confirmation. Your deposit amount will be stated in your rental agreement; this varies based on your overall cost but is typically 50% of your total cost. You may also pay in full upon booking.
The balance of your rental fees can be paid at any point between booking confirmation and the day of your rental.
What do I need to wear to come curling?
Clean, dry, close-toed athletic shoes are mandatory to curl.
We recommend wearing warm athletic clothing. Curlers tend to warm up while playing, so layers are best (i.e., a base layer, a sweater, vest gloves). Head protection (i.e., a helmet) is highly recommended. If you do not have a curling helmet, a hockey, bike, or skiing helmet is a good alternative.
What does the instructor do during our rental?
Prior to your ice time your instructor(s) will assist with gripper fittings and go over safety protocols. During the first hour of your ice time the instructor will walk your group through a crash course in curling. You’ll learn the basics of rock delivery and sweeping as well as curling rules. During the second hour your instructor will split your group into teams of 3-5 curlers and lead you through a game. Having an instructor on-ice is also necessary for safety with a group of inexperienced curlers.
What is the benefit of adding additional instructors?
Curling is a complex and nuanced sport and our instructors aim to get you curling as quickly as possible. Adding additional instructors allows the group to split up (i.e., four curlers at one end of the sheet, four curlers at the other), meaning the learn-to-curl portion of your rental can be completed faster, allowing you to play a longer game.
Also, for those group that are looking to use their rental as a true introduction to the sport and intend to continue in some capacity, having more time with the instructor is a great way to get a head start!
